Terms of Service

Effective date: August 31, 2026 · Last updated: August 31, 2026

1. Agreement

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and IRO, the operator of irostories.com (“IRO”, “we”, “us”). They govern your use of the IRO mobile application and the website irostories.com (together, the “Service”). By creating a character, making a purchase, or otherwise using the Service, you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

If you download the app from Apple's App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to the extent it is not inconsistent with these Terms; these Terms are between you and us, not Apple, and Apple has no obligation to provide support for the Service.

2. Definitions

  • “Character” — the manga persona you create, including its name, traits and generated character sheet.
  • “Story” — an interactive narrative you play, consisting of your setup, your choices and inputs, generated story text, and generated manga pages.
  • “Generated Content” — story text, character sheets and manga pages produced by AI within the Service.
  • “Inputs” — everything you provide: selfies, face descriptions, names, traits, story setups, choices and free text.
  • “Ink Drops” or “credits” — the in-app units consumed to generate pages.

3. Eligibility

The Service is rated 17+. You may use it only if you are at least 17 years old — or older, where the law of your country or region sets a higher minimum age for this kind of content or for entering contracts like these Terms. By using the Service you confirm you meet this requirement. Regardless of your own age, every Character you create must be depicted as an adult; character creation enforces an adult age and a story cannot begin until the character sheet is approved.

4. Your account and access

  • Your characters, stories and credit balance are tied to your account identifier on your device. Keep your device secure; actions taken through your account are treated as yours.
  • You may not access another person's account, characters or media, or attempt to. The Service enforces per-user ownership of uploads and content server-side.
  • If sign-in options are introduced, additional terms of the sign-in provider may apply to that sign-in.

5. Nature of the Service: AI-generated fiction

IRO is an entertainment product. Story text is generated by a large-language model and manga pages are generated by an image model, both responding to your Inputs. You understand and accept that:

  • Everything in a Story is fiction. Characters and events are invented by AI; any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, or to real events is unintended and coincidental.
  • Generative AI is probabilistic. Output may be surprising, imperfect, inconsistent, or not what you envisioned. That is part of how the medium works and is not a defect.
  • Generated Content is not our editorial voice, and it is not advice — medical, legal, financial or otherwise.
  • Generation depends on third-party AI providers. If generation fails, the page simply does not exist — we never substitute filler content — and the credits reserved for it are automatically returned (Section 8).

6. Your Inputs and the license you give us

  • Selfies: your own face only. If you upload a selfie, it must be a photo of yourself. Uploading photos of any other person — with or without their consent — or of anyone under 18 is strictly prohibited.
  • You must hold all rights to the Inputs you provide, and your Inputs must not violate Section 9.
  • You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process and transmit your Inputs — solely as needed to operate the Service: generating your Character and pages, storing your library, moderating content, and providing support. This license ends when the relevant content is deleted (subject to the snapshot rule in Section 7 and to backup cycles).
  • We do not use your Inputs to train our own AI models, and our provider agreements exclude API content from provider training.

7. Characters, stories and permanence

  • Character approval. A Story cannot begin until you approve your Character's sheet. The sheet is the fixed visual reference for every page of your Stories.
  • Snapshot rule. When a Story starts, your Character is copied into that Story as a snapshot. If you later delete the Character, existing Stories keep their snapshot and remain readable — the Character simply can't start new Stories.
  • Permanence. Your library is designed to be permanent: generated pages are kept for the life of your account. You can nonetheless request deletion of any Story or your entire account at any time (Privacy Policy, Section 8).

8. Ink Drops, purchases and refunds

  • How credits work. Generating a page consumes Ink Drops. The cost per page depends on the generation tier (for example standard versus high-detail) and is always shown before you commit. Costs are set server-side and may change as underlying model prices change; changes never affect pages already generated.
  • Reservation and automatic refund. Credits for a page are reserved when generation starts. If generation fails for technical reasons, the reservation is released and the credits return to your balance automatically — atomically and exactly once.
  • Moderation refusals. If generation is refused because the request violates Section 9, we may decline to re-run it; reserved credits for the refused page are returned, but repeated attempts to generate prohibited content are grounds for termination.
  • Legal nature of credits. Ink Drops are a limited, revocable, non-transferable license to use a Service feature. They are not money, property or an investment, have no cash value, cannot be traded or redeemed, and are not refundable by us except as described here or as required by law.
  • Purchases. Credit purchases are processed by Apple as in-app purchases. Prices shown in the App Store are final at the moment of purchase and may vary by region and over time. Refunds of purchases are handled by Apple under the App Store's refund process; we do not control Apple's refund decisions.
  • Free allowance. We may grant free credits (for example a starter allowance). Free credits carry no cash value, may be limited per person/device, and abuse of free allowances (for example device farming) may result in their removal.
  • Taxes. Prices include or exclude taxes as shown by the App Store for your region.

9. Content rules

These rules protect real people and keep the Service lawful. You must not use the Service to create, attempt to create, or solicit:

  • Any sexual or sexualized depiction of minors, or of characters presented, described or intended to appear underage — regardless of style, framing or claimed fictional age. This is a zero-tolerance rule: violation results in immediate, permanent termination without refund, and where the law requires, reporting to the competent authorities.
  • Content targeting real, identifiable persons — including uploading someone else's photo, naming real people as story characters, or generating intimate imagery of a real person.
  • Content that is illegal in your jurisdiction or promotes serious harm — including incitement to violence, terrorism or trafficking.
  • Content infringing third-party intellectual property — including prompting for recognizable copyrighted characters, franchises, universes, or imitation of named artists.

You must also not abuse the Service itself:

  • no probing, disabling or circumventing safety and moderation systems;
  • no reverse engineering, scraping, automated bulk access, or use of the Service to build a competing dataset or product;
  • no overloading the Service or interfering with other users;
  • no reselling access to the Service.

10. Moderation and enforcement

  • Inputs and Generated Content pass through automated safety checks; requests that violate Section 9 are refused, and severe violations may hard-block the story turn.
  • We may remove content, refuse generation, suspend or permanently terminate access for violations of these Terms. For the zero-tolerance rules in Section 9, termination is immediate and without warning; for lesser violations we will warn you first where reasonable.
  • Termination for cause forfeits remaining credits to the extent the law allows. Termination does not limit any other rights or remedies we may have.
  • If you believe content was refused or removed in error, contact support@irostories.com and we will review it.

11. Intellectual property

  • Ours. The Service — including the IRO name and seal, the app, the website, the design system, software and generation pipeline — is owned by us or our licensors. These Terms grant you no rights in it except the limited right to use the Service as intended.
  • Yours. Subject to these Terms and to the extent permitted by applicable law, we assign to you what rights we hold in the visual pages and story text generated in your Stories, for your personal, non-commercial use — read them, keep them, share them privately. Commercial exploitation of Generated Content requires our prior written consent.
  • Limits of AI ownership. The legal status of AI-generated works varies by jurisdiction, and similar outputs may be generated for other users; we cannot and do not guarantee copyright protection or exclusivity of Generated Content.
  • Feedback. If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them without obligation to you.

12. Third-party services

The Service depends on third parties we do not control: Apple (App Store, payments), AI providers (text and image generation), and cloud infrastructure. Their availability directly affects the Service; an outage at a provider can make generation temporarily impossible. Your use of Apple's platform is governed by Apple's own terms.

13. Availability and changes to the Service

We work to keep the Service available and improving, but we do not promise uninterrupted operation. We may add, change or remove features, and may suspend or discontinue the Service; if we discontinue it entirely, we will give reasonable advance notice through the app or this site. Your deletion rights (Privacy Policy, Section 8) are unaffected.

14. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service and all Generated Content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that output will meet your expectations. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions; in those places, the exclusions apply only as far as the law allows.

15. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law: we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising out of or related to the Service; and our total aggregate liability for all claims is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, and (b) fifty US dollars. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded by law — including, where applicable, liability for intent, gross negligence, or death or personal injury, and mandatory consumer rights of your country of residence.

16. Indemnification

You will indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages and reasonable costs (including attorneys' fees) arising from your Inputs, your violation of these Terms — in particular of Section 6 (rights in your Inputs) and Section 9 (content rules) — or your violation of another person's rights. This obligation applies to the extent permitted by the consumer law of your residence.

17. Termination

  • By you: stop using the Service at any time, and request account deletion as described in the Privacy Policy. Deleting your account forfeits remaining credits, except where the law requires otherwise.
  • By us: we may suspend or terminate access as described in Section 10, or with reasonable notice if we discontinue the Service.
  • Sections that by their nature survive termination — including 11 (IP), 14–16 (disclaimers, liability, indemnity) and 18 (governing law) — survive.

18. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes are subject to the courts and enforcement offices of Türkiye. If you are a consumer in the EU/EEA, the UK or another jurisdiction with mandatory consumer protections, you keep the protections and forum rights that the law of your habitual residence grants you and that cannot be waived by contract.

19. General

  • Changes to these Terms. We may update these Terms; the “Last updated” date changes, and for material changes we give advance notice in the app or on this site. Continued use after the effective date means acceptance; if you do not agree, stop using the Service and request deletion.
  • Severability. If a provision is held invalid, the rest remains in effect, and the invalid provision is replaced by a valid one closest to its intent.
  • No waiver. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it.
  • Assignment. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them as part of a reorganization or sale, with notice to you.
  • Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service.
